Best Winger In The World?????
oiler - October 31, 2005 07:56 AM (GMT)
He is referring to Brian Carney.
Chris, looking forward to Newie's new pickup next year? :P
To be serious, that was the worst individual performance I have ever seen in an international. Over the years, I have seen a lot of clowns put on the GB jersey, but Carney takes the cake.
I've seen a lot of performances where blokes did absolutely nothing (Martin Offiah in 1994) to blokes born without a particular skill (Paul Atcheson for being the slowest back ever).
But, Carney has a tonne of ability. The way he played was totally disgraceful. He played like he was totally unprepared. I'm concerned that the coaching staff could not see jush how much out of his depth he truly was.
I hope people don't dare blame the centre he was next to (Gleeson), as he did his job defensively. It was Carney who came up with the pissweak attempts at tackle. It was Carney who dropped the ball numerous times. It was Carney who was owned by a rookie NZ winger.
I don't blame the GB selectors for picking him on trust, but serious questions must be raised about his spot. If he made a few errors, than let him keep his spot. But, he had an absolute shocker (worse than Kimmo in Origin 1) and got hooked in the second half. Not a single point was scored down his wing after Johnson moved there.
Should Carney go?

Nobody, not ever, will be worse than Kimmo in Game One

How would you like your serve of humble pie, Roger & Doug? Perhaps I can have it on hand so you can get the taste out of your mouth while you're blowing me.

i have one advice to newcastle coach: name a winger on the bench when carney is playing.

Warning to any newcastle fans expecting heroics out of carney, one word- dont....
The guy is well past it and struggled in super league against below average wingmen. " years ago maybe, but the guys missed the boat...

That's odd. He was far and away your best in the tri-series win against New Zealand...

okay, but dont say i didnt warn you, you will not get 75% completion of games out of carney because he always seems to be carrying an injury, last season the squad situation at wigan was so poor, he had to play even when he was injured and it was evident for all to see.
P.S. The win against new zealand , let me ask you this in a friendly sort of way, if he only has one decent game for the knights would you be happy, thats all GB got out of him at the tri nations.
Also, how is my old mate Mark Edmondson getting on at the roosters?
Any news???? :ur_mum:

If you saw many of last season's Newcastle games, you'd know that one decent game would be more than most of our backs managed.

How did the knights go from being so very good to being so very bad, this didnt happen overnight, you could see it in their performance on the pitch that there was a gradual decline, attitude plays a big part on the pitch. Will improve any next year?
Is there any talk of who Jamie Lyon will go to after next season, Jamie has returned to the uk for one more season, but interestingly, his partner and baby son have remained in oz....

Injuries. 2004 saw us struggle when Andrew Johns was out, but guys like Ben Kennedy helped us through. When we lost them post season and then had to endure our worst ever injury toll - 2005 was always going to be horrendous. We used more players in first grade than any side last year, and it was always going to be a rough year. Hopefully Joey can keep it together this year and we'll perform as we're supposed to.
