The Auckland Pirates have fought out their first win of the 2005 season, scoring a courageous 24-16 victory over the previously unbeaten Central Phoenix. Parramatta have scored an enthralling 18-13 victory over Darwin in today's top of the country clash. The Cyclones looked to edge their way to a vital win when Keiran Wyar landed an unlikely dropgoal, but an eightieth minute try from man of the match Tim Smith landed a victory for the Eels. Smith was outstanding throughout, showing why he's the hottest young half in the competition.

The dream has come to a shuddering halt for unbeaten Hornsby, the Mavericks on the wrong end of a rather one sided 36-16 scoreline in their clash against fellow unbeaten club, Northern. The Cannons big guns were all firing as they blasted the underdog Mavericks right off the park.

Wagga continue to prop up the Premier League table, the luckless Badgers no match for the Cougars today in New Zealand. An all around dominant performance from the premiership contenders saw them embarass Wagga 36-12. Amazingly, the Badgers lead at halftime after a courageous first half, but proved unequal to the Cougar fightback.

In the clear cut game of the round, the Brisbane Bulls have rebounded from last week's loss to Gold Coast to secure an exciting 31-26 victory over the Wollongong Destructors. The Destructors scored five tries to four, but a lop-sided penalty count allowed the Bulls to scrape home.

Yes, there's never been a four game losing streak in ASRL history. Aside from the reigning premiers and the fifth placed team, who else have you lost to, Mick?
Chris Columbo - September 15, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)
Meh. I had to lose one sometime. Well done Northern and Dave if you are indeed their coach as i suspect you are.

We've tried it all. The problem is, Gower has no backbone or mental toughness. Just look at what he did for Penrith this year. :P

Amazingly, South Queensland remain unbeaten after four rounds of competition, today upsetting Canberra 24-14 to leave their record at three wins and a draw. By getting out early in the BFC you get a few rounds in which injuries can heal away. It's like having a bunch of byes. I managed to pick up a six weeker and a seven weeker in the Round of Eight and as a result have been without those players for the regular season thus far. I was weighing the pro and con effects the BFC has on the regular season.
