Title: Gold Coast Stingers/ Pirates/ Titans
Description: How things are shaping up

Things seem to be looking good for the Gold Coast with the signings of some good blokes and plenty more to come. It is great to see them try and bring back local products and other Queenslanders, as it will be good to get more young Qlders game time to strengthen our playing stocks for the Origin team.
At the moment the coasts signing look like.
1.
2. Brian Carney
3.
4.
5. Matt Petersen
6. Preston Campbell
7.
8
9. Nathan Friend
10. Luke Bailey.
11. Anthony Laffranchi
12.
13.
14. Luke O'Dwyer
15.
16.
17.
Still not a huge amount of signings but with rumours flying about of who they are going to sign such as Sam Perret and Ben Hannant (Roosters and both coast Juniors), Sean O'Loughlin (Wigan), Marty Mitchell (Bulldogs and another coast junior), Scott Prince (Tigers), Rhys Wesser (Panthers, who looks like getting released after next season), Clint Greenshields (Dragons) plus alot more, I think success will not be long off when they are back in 2007.
On the subject of names I think Pirates is by far the best name, Titans is average and so is Stingers. At least Pirates sounds cool and still sticks with the Nautical theme as the Gold Coast is by the sea.

Of the three 'favourite' names, I prefer Pirates but only because it's the best of a bad lot. Titans is a little American, Pirates is heavily used around the world, and Stingers is a little too colloquial. Personally I'd have liked the Dolphins name to stick, since Redcliffe are never really going to stand a chance of NRL inclusion.
Failing that, I'd have preferred Corsairs ahead of Pirates. Essentially the same thing, but with a far less cliched feel to it.

Redcliffe always have been and always will be the prick club of the League, always using money to buy there players rather then develop them. They just wait for clubs with no cash to develop good players then pounce on them and put them on good money contracts. They are the dirtiest bunch of pricks on the field as well, I would love to see them fold but I do not see that ever happening with the size of there Leagues club. Put it this way for people from NSW who have not seen it, it is probably 2 or 3 times the size of Balmain Leagues club. At least the Gold Coast were good enough not to put Rugby League through another lawsuit, Redcliffe would have lost anyways but they did not want to drag League down over a name. Hopefully if they become the Pirates let's not hope that the Bond Pirates Union team here on the coast does not want to join the NRL, or even the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Major League Baseball in America, or we might be in some kind of trouble. I mean how petty do they want to be, the are the skidmark on the Queensland Rugby League. In the Queensland cup there are 2 Seagulls, Wynumm and Tweed. In the Mixwell cup there are 2 Seagulls in Runaway Bay and Wynumm, then also Tweed who are joining it next year. Don't see any of them complaining and they are in the same comp. Redcliffe needs to get over themselves and realise how hard it was for the Gold Coast to get a team as the 6th largest and fastest growing city in Australia, and Redcliffe, a shitty little seaside suburb not far out of Brisbane.

'Stingers' is too colloquial? Are we worried that the rest of the world (who don't care) won't get the name? I think the very local nature of 'Stingers' is what makes it so charming.
As you've guessed I think 'Stingers' is the best because 'Pirates' (as you say) is over used, and corny. 'Titans' I don't exactly have anything constructive against. I guess I just don't like it.

Norths Leagues is massive, always has been. Don't underestimate a Leagues Club's ability to favour business over all.

Stingers is the name of the Brisbane Junior rep sides.

Well Redcliffe is massive and has been hugely successful for years and will not change as no one has anything better to do in that shit of a suburb then go there.
The Stingers name for them is different, the Gold Coast is suppose to be like a stingray where as the Stinger logo for the Junior Rep teams is a weird looking cartoon Wasp or Bee. Bring on the Pirates!

Don't know how much stock you can put in it, but there's buzz around LU that the 'Titans' name is heavily rumoured to be the name they'll go with.

That waspy bee thing is rather funny imo.
By the sounds of it they wanted Titans but with the toher 2 being far mroe popular then Titans they now have to decide between those 2 or tell those who voted they should not of bothered.
