New Zealand done the impossible, not only did they have to beat aussie in the final game of the tri nations they also had to beat them be more than 7 points.
In the first half after aussie went 6-0 up after 16 minutes with a mark gerrad try, new zealand was able to come back with three trys in the first half to vinnie anderson, lesley vainakolo and carlos spencer (only one of them was converted) for a healty 14 - 6 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the score stayed the same for 27 minutes until the sellout crowd was upset with a sloppy tackle by nigel vagana on ryan girdler that set up a ryan girdler line break with martin lang surprisingly in support to score a try under the posts.
But that was the end of the scoring for the so called unbeatable aussies, with vinnie anderson scoring his second try and david kidwell scoring a try in the 80th minute after matt gidley went for an intercept.
final score 26 - 12 to the new tri nations champions NEW ZEALAND!

Actually, that doesn't mean New Zealand's victorious, it just means that they've forced a final. The only occasion that grants an automatic victory is if one side goes through the tournament undefeated.
The final will be played after the ASRL finals.

Tri Series Extended
Due to the controversy surrounding the conclusion of this year's tri-series competition, which saw New Zealand claiming victory and both England and Australia claiming to have finished second (and thus eligible for the decider)- the ASRL has announced that the tri-series will be extended following the conclusion of the season. England, Australia, and New Zealand will each play an additional game against one another- with the two 'top' sides after this playing in a final.
