What songs get your blood boiling, ready to smash the entire Barmy Army even without alcoholic reinforcement?
Here's my top ten, in no particular order...
"Eye of the Tiger", Survivor - yes, it's from the "Rocky" series, but it's a solid piece of work, despite the slightly lame video...
"We're Not Gonna Take It", Twisted Sister - cool video - even better song, despite my general antipathy towards heavy metal and hard rock...
"Saturday Night's All Right For Fighting", Elton John - best lyrics, a rollicking good time on the piano for the second best piano player in the world (excluding Victor Borge)...
"You May Be Right", Billy Joel - whoops, spoke too soon - lyrics as good as Elton's, but strangely, no piano - but lots of great sax :D
"Born To Run", Bruce Springsteen - not quite the protypical fighting song, but too good to pass up here...
"Think", Aretha Franklin ("The Blues Brothers" soundtrack) - more sax, and the Queen of Soul in fine form, telling off her man - damn, she's got good pipes!
"Our House", Madness - a one-hit wonder - but brother, what a hit!
"Stars and Stripes Forever", John Philip Sousa (composer), Boston Pops Orchestra, Arthur Fielder, conductor - a classic, rollicking march, one of the best of its form (marches were designed to get men to happily march into battle - no mean feat, that...)
"On, Wisconsin" - you can substitute your favourite team's fight song here - but since "On, Wisconsin" has been adopted by over three thousand schools and teams from around the world as their own, this march is one of the best possible choices to make this list...
"Bud Song" - I hate Budweiser, but this jingle, adapted by the University of Wisconsin Band, redeems that slop of hops enough so that I would consider drinking one if someone bought it for me. Two, however, and the gloves come off...
