In a must win game for the Crusade, their batsmen set a 300+ target for the Bushwackers, and bowled the favourites out in the 29th over in a one sided affair.
Strauss and Lehmann opened the batting for the Crusade, and quickly set about making a large total, smashing Pathan who had been called up to take the new
ball along with Sami, with Bond out. Pathan was despatched for over 8 an over, with his line not right to the left handed openers. Sami and Nehra managed
to stem the flow a little, with Pathan not returning during the match. The 100 partnership came up, no wicket lost, and then the 150. Soon after the 150
opening partnership was made, Lehmann departed playing an uppish drive that edged to gully, and Dippenaar held a good catch to have the Bushwackers first
scalp for the day. Little did the Bushwackers know, they wouldn't take any more wickets. They probably knew that the score would reach 280+ with Strauss
well set, and Klusener 3rd in. The Bushwackers tried 7 bowlers in total in an effort to take a wicket or stop runs, but it didn't come, and Klusener scored
67 at better than a run a ball, and Strauss ended up with an unbeaten 158 from 160. The sole wicket taker was Sami with 1 for 42 from 10.
The Bushwackers were confident of chasing 300+ on a good pitch, but Crusade bowling hero Kasper was back in the team and on fire from the first over.
Kasper took a wicket in his first over, and 2nd over also. Harmison bowled 3 super accurate over, and was unlucky to not get a wicket. Samuels and Klusener
chipped in well also along with spinner Boje to take 2 wickets each. Bowlers got credit for all 10 wickets, with Kasprowicz taking 4 for 39 and pegging the
Bushwackers back from his first over. Ponting and Tendulkar, the 2 best batsmen in the NZ side top scored for their side, scoring 28 and 19 with their side
under pressure. with 3 players out of the Bushwackers lineup, their batting was not really affected, but their bowling was with Bond and Gillespie both out,
and nobody could fill their shoes, and cost the NZ team the game that they could not take wickets.
3 points went to Strauss for his superb 158 not out, 2 went to Kasper with his return of 4-39, taking wickets in back to back overs, and 1 point went to
Klusener for his rapid 67 and 2 wickets.
Ooooh! Doug, I do believe you're officially my bitch for the remainder of your life. My God, what a performance. Kasper, you are a cricketting god!
