NZ bushwackers remain favourites to win the final of the ASCL after downing the Isotopes by 64 runs.
NZ elected to bat first on a pitch that was giving little movement early, but their batsmen rally failed to score the 300 odd that they should have posted
with their lineup and the conditions. Tendulkar made a fist ball duck to an Agarkar special, Agarkar finding some late swing with his second delivery to
have the little master heading back to the pavillion. Pontings stay was also breif, he lasted 18 balls for 15 runs, with Singh called on early in the innings
to try and peg back a free scoring Gayle, he ended picking up Ponting caught and bowled. It was a usual Ponting dismissal, going hard at a ball early
in his innings, and just spooning a return catch to the bowler, spped cameras revealing that Singh had used a slower ball which was about 6 ks/h slower than
the previous ball he delivered to Ponting. Gayle and Clarke combined to put on some fireworks for a while, their partnership worth 82 which included 4 6s
between them. Other batsmen falied, the top score of 75 going to Gayle, and Clarke second best batsmen with 34 in a dissapointing show with the bat by the
Bushwackers. NZ's tail really wagged however, at one point they went from 8-166, where it looked as if the Isotopes would hold the Bushwackers to under 200, which would
have been a great feat, but Bond, Gillespie and Sami made 95 invaluable runs between them, Sami once again rescuing his side, like he had done before in the
earlier rounds. He scored 56 off 48 unbeaten, and Gillespie 25 off 16 unbeaten. Their last wicket partnership was worth and unbroken 61. The Isotopes had
been in such a great position to hold them under 200, but they had let it slip away. Best of the QLD bowlers was Singh, who was only recalled to the side
becase of Mcgrath's injury, he ended with 3 for 49. Pollock hammered out of the attack early by Gayle and Clarke, and bowled later in the innings, but still
went for 67 off his 10 in an unusual inaccurate display by the South African.
Morale was not the best in the Isotopes camp, after they realised they has let a golden opporutunity pass when they began their chase. The batting lineup
was once again transformed in an effort to limit the exposure of Bond and Sami to the top batsmen. Gillespie once again stepped up to the plate, with 10
high class overs coming from him in a row. He had 3 of the top 4 players out, and choked the Isotopes of runs in the process. Pollocks bad day continued
with the bat, scoring a slow 5, Boucher did well with 17 off 27, Wiseman went for 4 and they were 3-49, but had alot of batting to come. Marshall made a top
notch 22, but was undone by a Gillespie gem, the ball beating all defence of Marshalls. Kallis and Gilchrist combined for a decent partnership of 78, and
the Isotopes looked to have the game in hand with the 2 playing well, but a bad mixup between them had Gilchrist gone for 35, and hopes faded for QLD at 6-141
and the run rate creeping up to around 7 an over. Martyn was to play an anchor role with the tailenders, but the situation called for more than that,
and led to his downfall, Bond cleaning up middle stump with a 150km/h ball after Martyn had looked to play a more agressive innings than he had hoped for. Youhana came in, the last bastmen, and fought to 32, from his dismissal on the
game was lost with only 3 tailenders left and over 70 to get. Malik came and went, Clarke picking up his wicket. Agarkar and Singh fought off a bigger
defeat for a little while, but in the endup, Sami's 56, and Gillespies 3 wickets were the difference in a up and down game.
Gillspie too out the MOTM award, his 3 wickets for 32 off 10 showing up his more fancied teammates. Sami made a brilliant 56 under pressure and also took 1
wicket to get the vote for 2 points, and Gayle 1 point for his 75 at the top of the order.
bloody martyn, that was disturbing, that foot trip on shane bond after he took out his middle stump was revolting and should be heavily fined. have a good holiday bond, shane bond!
