Title: R.S.C Player Named For Lions
MrCharisma - April 28, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
Known for thinking outside of the box, England coach Anthony Magro has named his 17 men which will face New Zealand later in the week. Amidst the players selected, The Entrance's Garreth Hock has found himself on the bench despite playing in the Rising Star Competition.
"Well what is the RSC competition. To alot of people it's where older players can attempt to find former glory. To me it's a place where young players can slog their guts out each week looking to cement a place in next seasons top line up. We purchased Gareth because of his immense talent and we knew that with the right training he'll be a star. He's definately impressed me and my representitive board enough not to have my decision challanged and I'll stick by it. The hardest job isn't to get into a rep squad, it's retaining your spot. It's now up to him" said coach Anthony Magro.
Magro has toyed around with players and their positions. With many of his ideal players out injured or out of form, he's looked at the particular brilliance of key players to lead the way.
"There is no doubt about the talent we have. Andy Farrell is blitzing the Player of the Year competition, Kevin Sinfield has been a dominate force in the ASRL for many seasons now, Kris Radlinski has held the entire North Queensland Dolphins finals hopes on his shoulders, Paul Sculthorpes vision and skill has helped the Falcons to their current position... and the list goes on."
"A few of the players have already played under me and know the style of football I like. Terry O'Connor and Steven Wild have all been former players while Stuart Fielden, Gareth Hock and Paul Sculthorpe still do. The boys have looked great in training. Experience will be a huge factor in our favour. Sinfield, Farrell, Sculthorpe, Tickle, Peacock, Radlinski and Wilkinson have big game experience which will provide a pillar of faith with the younger ones."
With Magro coming off the Origin series loss, Magro has vouched to put one over long-time rival Doug Allen. With Wellington just over taking the Falcons on the ASRL Premier League table, the rivals will compete twice in the one night after the The Entrance Tiger Vs. Gisborne Heat match was named as the Tri-Nations opening game.
The side which will run out on Friday night will go as follows;
1. Stuart Readon [Newcastle Fear]
2. Shaun Briscoe [Gold Coast Crusade]
3. Keith Senior [Surfers Paradise Punks]
4. Mark Gerrard [East Coast Tigers]
5. Kris Radlinski [North Queensland Dolphins]
6. Paul Sculthorpe [Central Coast Falcons]
7. Jonny Wilkinson [Perth Taipans]
8. Terry O'Connor [Fairfield Stallions]
9. Kevin Sinfield [Wellington Cougars]
10. Stuart Fielden [Central Coast Falcons]
11. Danny Tickle [Wellington Cougars]
12. Jamie Peacock [Wellington Cougars]
13. Andy Farrell [Gold Coast Crusade]
14. Paul Deacon [Surfers Paradise Punks]
15. Ryan Bailey [Wollongong Destructors]
16. Gareth Hock [The Entrance Tigers]
17. Steven Wild [Carnarvon Grizzlies]

umm one problem with that magro, Mark Gerrard is Australian! Played for the Wallabies last year. So I don't know how he ended up in the Great Britain side. You will have to change it MIX Master MAGRO!

Apoligies, Magro. For the most part I just scan to make sure the guys you're naming have PoM points. I don't check eligibility. You'll need to replace Gerrard.

Ah shit... I haven't had a decent amount of time to double check players elibility. Sorry for that.
Update;
A late inclusion into the English side has been another RSC sensation, Chev Walker who has impressed all but his coach. "I see great things in Chev, he's a player of the future and I think he can make an impact in the English line-up, despite experience"
Terry O'Connor has been a late change out of the squad, due to his Irish background. Replacing him is Paul Anderson.
*I've had a whole 5 seconds to think about this and again I've got limited internet access. If Chev is injuried or unable to play, throw Martin Gleeson in... I know for sure that bastard is able to play *

Unfortunately, I've already played the game, so Anderson's late inclusion is impossible. That said, I'm almost certain that O'Connor has played games for both England and Ireland.

Play O'Connor.... and can I use Chev?

I think he's eligible. He's West Indian, but they're not participating, so he should remain eligible for England. Or was he Welsh?

Well he played for Great Britain so surely he isn't Indian.... I'll check his eligibility later but I don't think he's Welsh either....

He's not West indian, yet. If they fielded a team he'd play for them. Until that happens, and I hope it neevr does, he remains great britian. not sure what part though,
