Hunter Bantams Vs. Kensington Highrollers

A sold out crowd turned up to Energy Australia for the much antisipated match between local hero's Hunter against Kensington.

The game began in exciting fashion with plenty of kick returns, line busts and big hits, however; it wasn't til the 21st minute that points were actually put on the board. Hunter fullback Brad Watts put one over the posts after Barry Eaton was penalised for holding a player down. It was this momentium that brought the next points from the kick off with a Willie Manu bust 70 metre bust which found the support of Tyran Smith. Watts was unable to convert. Barry Eaton was redemed for previous penalities after creating some magic to put Kyle Bryant over in the 33rd. Eaton converted and the sides were level 6-6, however; Highrollers centre Jack Isaac left the fied with a niggling knee injury and the sides went into the half on equal terms.

Nobody knows what coach Fowler told his boys at halftime but the side was fired up. In the initial minutes of the second half Hunter winger Beau Mundine was penalised for fighting with Matt Dunning which caused Dunning to leave the field with a broken nose. The intensity continued as Highlanders fell and the next to fall was Elia Tuqiri. The Highlanders looked in trouble until Lenny Beckett dashed 89metres to score under the posts and Eaton converted, putting the away side 6-12 in the 48th. Hunter slowly was beginning to crumble and hope was fading UNTIL Hunter won the scrum feed after a Adrian Vowles knock on which lead to an unconverted Willie Manu try. Watts slotted one over after a play the ball infringement in the 64th then a converted Brad Commins try in the 66th put Hunter back in the lead.

It was now Kensington who was getting frustrated. Lucas Solbat was sin binned in the 71th for a vicious head high tackle and Watts slotted over a penality goal to extend the lead to 20-12. The final minutes remained uneventful and Hunter fans went up with a roar at fulltime.
