Title: Re think
westspanthers - October 20, 2004 09:30 AM (GMT)
I just want to bring up the salary thing again. I think it is pretty stupid for someone with a decent kick to be 50k more expensive then the same stats with lower kicking. I just think it is not realistic at all.
chriswalkerbush - October 20, 2004 10:13 AM (GMT)
Not realistic? You don't think people would pay extra for Cameron Smith because of his ability to take pressure off the playmakers with his ability to kick? You pay for the player as a package, not just his attack and defence with everything else ignored.
As I said on MSN, if you don't want to pay the price for him, then trade him off.

Hussey,
You are the John Ribot of the ASRL. Like Ribot with the ARL and Politits with the NRL, you like to push the boundaries with the system.
Im going to call you "Reebs" from now on.

Well Ribot has built a few successful clubs, and doesn't just think inside the square. I think that the whole 25 new player thing will make the league not as strong, players like Cam Smith would be on nothing like the asrl 500k salary. It is suppose to be as close to realistic as possible and it just isn't at all. It is weird that there is 25 players then an rsc, it should be your top 17 or top 20 on salary cap and then you have your rsc blokes. If there is 25 men in each side that would make 50 people in 1st grade and reserve grade, thats a shitload of players which just is not needed. Maybe a few more people should become a bit more like Ribot! It would definately smarten up the league quick smart! Politis and Ribot have more brains to see that thingsd need to move with the times and not sit back like the bullshit ARL league did, Superleague was trying to make the game internationally viable, and ARL was too busy worried about there traditionalist shit to realise anything, no wonder it was more of a reserve grade comp to Superleague! It showed when they joined back up in 1998, and two superleague teams went to the grand final with Brisbane the best superleague team being the best of the 2 joined together again!

I'm a bit taken back by the 25 man thing. Maybe we need to look at the salaries of players in real life and adjust a system to that like the highest paid player in real life is the reference for the highest stat line. It would help alot cause I'm sure none of them get paid over 500,000 from their actual club. Fix some of the salary issues up and that might fix the 25 man issue for me. I agree with the goalkick thing costing more, but try and make some of the other players salaries more realistic.

Well, if you're going to argue 'realism', the NRL's top squad is made up of 25 men who have to fit under the salary cap. Just like in the ASRL, there is no salary cap on lower grade clubs (we just put a 215k ceiling on it to prevent people from hoarding 8/8's down there).

You guys are ranting and making very little sense. The reason salaries are so high is because we've got a 7.5 million dollar salary cap. If we dropped them to reflect NRL standards, we'd have to lower the salary cap substantially. Sides like Brisbane's current lineup (which is two million over the cap) could never exist in the NRL, and lowering the players' salaries to allow Josh to keep all of his talent does the exact opposite of what the salary cap is intended to do. That is, break up talent. There are several PL clubs who played last season with 1.5 million to spare.
The salary cap means a few quality players will be forced out, and that will help the struggling PL sides.

You will when Hussey has to start offloading some of his talent, I'm sure. ;-)

Ok Then if we arent able to get players in the contract period then could we maybe say anyone left over after the contract period goes into the player pool to pick up at the bare minimum of $75,000. Otherwise ill have to offload players already for the scum of the earth players nobody wants. This would leave astute purchasers to pick up some very young talent that may turn into champions. This would reflect upon players who play for match payments or on incentive contracts.
Also seeing as though theres a huge difference between cap prices we should also be able to get our post contract players for less. Maybe even $50,000 as this would also reflect upon reality. A $75,000 player in premier league is a chump but in reality if a Jersey flegg or presidents cup player was earning $75,000 they would have to be a real champ.
