Title: RSC Quarter Finals

chriswalkerbush - October 19, 2004 01:28 PM (GMT)
In an astounding round of RSC finals' action, the entire bottom four scored upset victories to throw Birchgrove and Katherine out of figurings and create a real hubub amongst the top clubs.

In the clash between sixth and third, the Johannesberg Hyenas stormed back from a 16-10 halftime defecit to record an emphatic 30-16 victory over the Pistoleers. The Hyenas, who may well make an exit from the RSC competition next season due to lack of funding, were brilliantly lead by local boy, Jamie Bloem.
Johannesberg Hyenas 30 (Neil Sweeney, Ryan Jones 2, Steve Southern, and Uri Novavich. Sweeney 5/6) defeated Birchgrove Pistoleers 16 (Dean Byrne and David McElroy. Pariah 4/4).
PoM Points: Jamie Bloem 3, David Myles 2, and Neil Sweeney 1.

In Hunter's clash with Katherine, it took twenty minutes of extra time to decide a winner, with the Bantams continuing their recent good form with a 26-20 victory engineered by two tries in the first half of extra time. Despite the Bantams winning, it was a game Katherine will look back on as a piece of bad luck, having controlled it until the dying minutes.
Hunter Bantams 26 (Brad Commins 2, Jamie McDonald 2, and Tyran Smith. Watts 3/7) defeated Katherine Kings 20 (Chris Chester 2 and Patrick Varune 2. Matakamikamica 0/1. Mulvihill 2/4).
PoM Points: Chris Chester 3, Adam Cooke 2, and Brett Kearney 1.

Wests' kept themselves alive with a big 24-10 win over the Kensington Highrollers, whose form in the last few weeks has been somewhat worrying after being such a dominant side earlier in the season. The Panthers set up a mouth-watering local derby with minor premiers, Sunshine Coast.
Wests Panthers 24 (Adam Mogg, Berrick Barnes, Julian Huxley, and Darren Mapp. Irwin 4/5) defeated Kensington Highrollers 10 (Kyle Bryant. Eaton 3/3).
PoM Points: Berrick Barnes 3, Ty Williams 2, and Shaun Briscoe 1.

The Entrance have completed an astonishing weekend of RSC finals, a sterling game by Brisbane bound five eighth, Jonathon Thurston, lifting the visitors to a 20-16 victory over the minor premiers. The win throws the Tigers into the ring with second placed Kensington next week.
The Entrance Tigers 20 (Samer El Masri, Jonathon Thurston, and Corey Hughes. El Masri 4/4) defeated Sunshine Coast Wizards 16 (Trent Clayton and Jamie Fitzgerald. Williams 4/5).
PoM Points: Dustin Cooper 3, Jonathon Thurston 2, and Samer El Masri 1.

Eliminated: Birchgrove Pistoleers and Katherine Kings
Week Off: Hunter Bantams and Johannesberg Hyenas

Next Week

Brian Randell made a surprise appearance at the Suchine Coast game today where he streaked onto the field wearing a sign that stated.

"Eat My Ass you piss ant Walker Bush"

He was quickly detained and told to be incredibly intoxicated. Charges are yet to have been made but it is feared that Randell may not be able to be present on ground next year when his Mavericks and the Pheonix play the Crusade.
