I can't believe you had to go as far back as the L.A olympics to find something that N.Z had more of the Australia, surely that shows you how pathetic N.Z is! Why don't you show us a medal tally of this years olympics and we'll see how they come out compared to us.

comparing an island (new zealand)(pop: 4, million) to the size of a continent of australia (pop:20 million)we do better than what we should for our size, when was the last time aussie beat the USA in the gold medal race at the olympics? same argument!

NZ's population is 4million, Australia's is 20million. Therefore Australia has five times the amount of people as the Kiwis. So you say that its not fair comparing them, and that we should compare Australia to the USA - yet the USA's population is about 294 million ... ie nearly 15 times the amount of people as Australia! So how can that be far to compare them?
On that basis, for every NZ medal, the Aussies should win 5 and the USA 74.
Current tallies are NZ 4, the Aussies 42 and the USA 83.
So you could say that comparing the Kiwis with the Aussies you do NOT 'do better than what we should for our size' (your mangled English, not mine) - however compared to the USA the Kiwis ARE actually easily winning more medals per person.
Cheers,
Mark F
PS Of course, none of this takes into account the disgraceful amount of money Aussie taxpayers are forced into spending on the AIS for example - but that's another story <_<

Since you have entered this Mark, how's Great Britain going? And also on the point of Taxpayers paying out money for teams, the English Rugby Union world cup campaign was funded with over 30 million dollars! :D I would call that a "DISGRACEFUL" amount would'nt you?

4*5=20 in my books

Why are we arguing about this? Why not challenge New Zealand to some kind of competition in which their best take on Australia's best. Winner takes all. Imagine that. A new Australian state named 'New Zealand'.
Wonderful. :P

Yeah ... where do I say it isn't?
Australia has five times the number of people as the Kiwis. USA has about 15 times the number of people as Australia. You say it's not fair to compare the first, but is the second?! That's your logic, not mine.

I don't know how Great Britain is going, but there are plenty of websites that have the medal table if you want to check. Why would I care? Not being from Great Britain it doesn't really interest me ... its the same as me asking you how Djibouti are going. Completely irrelevant.
As for the English Rugby Union world cup campaign - again, why would I care? But my understanding at the time is that most of the money came from Sport England (I could be wrong though) - which distributes money from the National Lottery over there. That's not coming out of taxpayers money, that's coming from people who have a choice as to whether to buy a lottery ticket or not.
