Title: League vs. Union could be settled

MrCharisma - July 22, 2004 04:58 AM (GMT)
It's an on going battle within the ASRL, who is better Rugby Union or Rugby League players? It's a question which could be debated until the cows came home. League has always had the support of the majority with the main opposition coming from former Suva coach JD (Jonathan Marskell). Since his departure Anthony McElroy (Adelaide and Coffs Harbour) has attempted to up hold the fight.

In a discussion between League and Union panelists on ASRL Live, former North Melbourne 5/8th Anthony Mundiene bought up a way to end the arguement short term whilst also giving bragging rights. Mundiene's idea composed of a one off match each year where the best of League will take on the best of Union. ASRL Live co-panelists: Paul Harrigan (former Central Coast), Tim Horrin (former Suva) and Ricky Stuart (former Hawkesbury) had little bit praise to the idea with Stuart stating "more repsentitive football, the better".

Two seasons ago a League vs. Union match took place with League taking the victory but many feel that they were unprepared and the match wasn't given the deserving hype to make a success.

Heavy weight contendors to the positions would be Chris Walker-Bush and the McElroy brothers- Anthony and David. Chris was the coach for the one of match, coaching league and the McElroy brothers are renound for their contributions and have become a voice for the Union converts. Between the brothers they hold the contracts to 13 high profile converts including George Smith, Mat Rogers, Rupeni Caucau and Ronan O'Gara to name a few.

Of yet no one has commented upon the idea, however; media and players alike will push for the idea to atleast go to the ASRL board.

Super union proponent Anthony McElroy today released a statement regarding the writings of ASRL board member Anthony Magro.

"It was with great jubilation that i opened my paper today and saw the front page article..."Retarded man hit by bus". My smile left my face though five seconds later when i realised that it wasn't that screwball Chris Columbo. So i flicked through the paper, through the sports, funnies and business section. Iwas about to close the paper then what did i find buried away in the darkness of the ASRL cup section but the story about the possibility of asrl League vs union match. I must say i almost choked on my muffin. What was this? An asrl board member actually acknowledging the plausability and economic feasibility of such a crowd pleasing match. The best of the best in a match that would finally prove thiat stinky little game for what it truly is.... a pointless drain of rugby talent. Rugby is a world game. League is a dying little aussie icon that is best forgot about.

So the names of Chris Walker-Bush, my handsome brother and my good self were brought forward as candidates to coach this unbelievable hive of rugby talent. I have to say that the consideration of Walker-Bush was a disgrace and just shows how slanted the board is against union converts. My brother has all the qualities of a rugby man, but i fear he still has that North Sydney bears rogue in him. An infection i long ago cured (or should i say, had cured for me by those @#$% wits at the NRL).

So with that in my mind i have gone about securing every piece of genuine rugby talent in the ASRL. Of course, this hasn't been easy with people vowing never to give up the players that have quietly been holding their teams together for years.
The talent is coming though and between coffs and adelaide i already can boast:
Stirling Mortlock, Matt Giteau, Doug Howlett, Joe Van Niekerk, Chris Jack, Doug Howlett, Wendell Sailor, Elton Flatley, Lote Tuqiri, Rupeni Caucaunibuca, Carl Hayman, Steve Kefu, Matt Dunning and a bunch of other internationals.

So i must say i am very excited about the prospect of any kind of cross promotion super matches. If selected for such a prestigious postion i am sure that i will help the rah rahs bring all the fire and brimstone in the world. Thank you...

Oh and i wouldn't mind co-coaching with the bro either...

Man i reckon this is better off in the articles section. Its an article isn't it written as an editorial as much as a suggestion. A seroius subject is getting drowned in here

PJ_Marshal - July 22, 2004 12:54 PM (GMT)
I can settle it now

UNION IS GAY LIKE AIDS

How is getting drowned? If it were in the article section it would have had two posts obscure it already. Here, it's the only thing going on.

Besides, it doesn't concern the ASRL at all. It's Magro bored and writing an article, and the 'Union fags' (not a personal name, it's a catch all term) firing up. Almost makes me miss JD.

Im all for it just as long as it doesnt affect the ASRL competition in any way. the less rep games, the better!

*COUGH* I actually coached Union last year...not JD. But anyway...I guess Anthony can have a go if he wants....as long as Carlos is halfback :D

oh and union shits all over league...etc..etc :bang:
