Description: how?

jimmeh - June 8, 2004 06:16 PM (GMT)
ive spent hours trying to get them right...and i cant even get close. is there a technique i should use or something? or are they just generally very hard?

Are you talking about doing pinch harmonics in general or bending pinch harmonics?

Am_I_Evil? - June 9, 2004 09:48 AM (GMT)
what like zakk does?

TooFastForLove - June 9, 2004 06:27 PM (GMT)
it sort of feels like a scraping motion. you have to hit the string with your thumb and pick at the same time. it sounds kinda complicated but its much easier to show in person

anyway good luck! i did a half hour straight of constant "pinching" before i actually got it!

i'm not really sure what you're askin, all ya gotta do is "pinch" the note then bend the string so you're probably just havin problems with pinch harmonics all together, so then i suggest that you try doing the pinch harmonics over and over again until you feel comfortable with them, then all you gotta do is bend the string. Or you could just set up little excercises for yourself.

Maybe the note dies when you bend? then you should recheck your string height to the frets... :wavey:

jimmeh - June 10, 2004 04:06 PM (GMT)
yeah, it dies, but thats not because of string height. i think it's because with pinch harmonics you dont put much pressure on the string, and when i bend it i put too much pressure on. and for people that arent sure what i'm asking, it's some sort of wail sound if that helps. really high and waily :P

I would say find a spot on your guitar that you almost always can do pinch harmonics. Try doing them here untillyou get them down, then try moving them around. One of the best ways to get pinch harmonics down is to try doing them without any distortion at all.

ohhhhh i get it now :P whatcha gotta do is just "pinch" an open string (i reccomend the lower strings since they are thicker) without any distortion and then aonce you feel comfortable with that you can build up to doing them on frets then try bending them just a tiny tiny bit until you find that spot where the sound dies and then try to pinch the note frome there and see what happens, but that's about all the advice that i can give you other than just keep practicing and set up little excercises for yourself and try to work at it at least once a day.

Can somebody tell me how Dimebag does his "pitch harmonic". Guy does it with one finger from the fred?
