Title: thunderbird bass ?

endofpassionplay - January 9, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
hi everyone,

I'm thinking about buying a new epiphone thunderbird bass.. I read some reviews on the internet and most of them were positive, does anyone here got some bad experiences with this bass ? ( I know about the neck dive)
thx in advance !

les paul - January 9, 2007 02:09 PM (GMT)
harmony central is often a great site for reviews

http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...hunderbird/10/1

endofpassionplay - January 9, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
thx man, that site sure helps me out !

les paul - January 9, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
no problem mate, i use harmony central quite a lot

however, as good as online reviews are, the best thing to do is try out the guitar yourself (if possible)

They are a great bass

Im gonna get one soon and i dont even like basses

endofpassionplay - January 11, 2007 10:37 PM (GMT)
yes, i do prefer testing them first, but this one is very hard to find in my area..

whiteiris - January 14, 2007 12:27 PM (GMT)
a friend of mine had a gibson - thunderbird, and man it was an awsome bass, in my opinion , go and buy one, you wont be dissapointed

Pitty^_^ - January 14, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
The epi Thunderbird is very heavy in the neck which can make some problems.

FucT666 - January 14, 2007 03:50 PM (GMT)
But obviously, like everything else, you will get used to it

Pitty^_^ - January 14, 2007 08:16 PM (GMT)
And I forgot to say it is probably the ugliest bass ever made.

Imo the shape suits a bass more then a guitar

But shapes is all down to personal preferance

if it's good enough for sixx, its good enough for anyone

even though yours would be an epiphone, im sure it'd still be great

Pitty^_^ - January 17, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
The epi-basses are not the best for this priceclass either. Got an epi flynig-V with a heavy weight. It is actually a hard bass til play on, but cool on stage :)

endofpassionplay - January 22, 2007 12:29 AM (GMT)
I just ordered a white one, so it should be here within a week, i'll let you know what i think about it, but I'm pretty sure I won't be dissapointed! (hope so :) )

it is bad enough when you post these things in your thread/s but don't ruin other peoples threads with your creations! <_<

great, let us know what you think of it endofpassionplay! :D

It's scheduled to arrive today, so I'm excited ! :)
I'll post my thoughts about it and some pictures :D

If its neck heavy youre gonna have issues onstage. i have that problem with my warlock. but if youre just gonna be around the house playin or whatever it shouldnt be too big of a problem

endofpassionplay - January 31, 2007 11:58 AM (GMT)
well.. it is a bit neckheavy, but i'm going to replace the straplocks. I hope that that will solve the problem a bit more..
anyway, I really love this bass, I'll post a picture this weekend when i get back home! :)

if you are having problems with the neck endofpassionplay, using a leather strap rather than a nylon one may help as it means that there is more friction

endofpassionplay - February 1, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
thx for the advice, I'm going to buy a leather strap tomorrow and see wheter this solves the problem enough. In case this would't help enough, how would you guys recommend me to replace the strap locks?

les paul - February 1, 2007 02:58 PM (GMT)
no problem, it should help

i use a leather strap and although they are usually more expensive, they are much more comfortable to wear and the wider ones help to spread the guitar's weight over your shoulders better than a typical nylon strap

as for strap locks, i use schaller:

no chance of your guitar falling to the floor

i can't believe you haven't had a warning or been banned yet breadffan. you don't contribute anything to this forum except these spam creations every now and then

we are trying to talk about the thunderbird bass and you have interrupted us needlessly, twice in the same thread -_-

endofpassionplay - February 1, 2007 04:35 PM (GMT)
I bought already a pair of schaller strap locks last week :) I'll let you know about the effect of the leather strap tomorrow!

what do you think about this site neck dive solved? found this when I was looking for a way to replace the strap locks to a better position.

it looks like a good solution as long the new location for the strap lock doesn't interfere with playing higher up the neck

i see this site mentions using leather straps too :D i would try the bass out with the new strap tomorrow and if neck dive is still a huge problem for you, seriously consider moving the strap lock

FucT666 - February 2, 2007 06:51 AM (GMT)
Id just leave it as it is, youll get used to it

endofpassionplay - February 5, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
I took some photos, do I really need to put them on the internet so I can put the url here?

I bought the leather strap, it does help to avoid the neck dive, but I'm still tinking about replacing the strap locks. But the leather strap will do for a while :) thanks for the advice !

if you want to post the pictures in this thread, then yes you do have to upload them to a site such as http://imageshack.us/ or http://photobucket.com/

good to hear the leather strap is helping. if i were you, i would leave the strap positions as they are for now and see if you get used to the bass as it is

as i said earlier in this thread, i want a gibson firebird like this:
http://www.umenaka.com/syasin/syasin/Gib%2...FAN%20CW.50.jpg :metal2:

endofpassionplay - February 10, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
can't argue with you about your white firebird !:) how much does this firebird cost?

les paul - February 10, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
in the UK those Gibsons are about 1,200 (although prices vary if you shop around)

the only problem is that i am left handed (:ph43r:) and Gibson don't make the Firebird as a lefty currently :( that's why i said i wanted one, if they made them i would already have bought one!

Jet City Woman - February 11, 2007 04:25 AM (GMT)
nice bass endofpassionplay!
i love white instruments! i had a white drumkit once and loved it.

lespaul i know what you mean about being left handed, the range is so limited, and if you are lucky enough to find a left handed guitar or bass they usually bump the price up a few hundred bucks compared to a right handed one.
its pretty ridiculous really.

Drunk Pirate - February 15, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
Whites probably one of the most attractive colors for guitars/basses until they get older and yellowed. but Id kill to have my Araya ESP painted arctic white, nice choice, black is overdone

I had my first gig with my thunderbird yesterday, and I have to say, I'm glad I didn't replace the strap locks.
I got used to it a lot faster than I thought !
thank you guys for advise! it really helped me out!

Themonsterlives - March 4, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
Pretty sweet bass. I haven't heard a bad thing about them. Working at Guitar Center i hear a lot of good/bad things about almost everything.....Glad to see a great gibson product worked for ya.....there is a lot more where that came from!!!
