You need a program to convert to mp3. Secondly why would you lower it. Lowering the Kbps will reduce the quality of the sound :)!

what kinda program? i wanna lower it to conserve space, for a few reasons, 1. my mp3 player only has 512mb, 2. i dont have enough cash to buy a 40gb one, and 3. im using over half of my HD to store all my music

I have an audio bit rate converter with my Zen, but it's a bit shitty. Someone gave me an album at 64kbps and I put it up to 128 but it still sounded like Jingle bells because of the shitness. I'll try the aforementioned converter when I next need it :)

jimmeh - September 6, 2005 06:31 PM (GMT)
converting something up won't improve quality though, cause the high end and low end bits are cut off and gone...will it?

indeed, the quality is already gone.. so you cant get it back, no matter what converter you use

Cliff 'em All - September 6, 2005 07:48 PM (GMT)
Aha.

No hope of sorting out my 10kb/s Garage Inc tour boot then

The_Master_Of_Puppets - September 6, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
10KB/s, geez man that's terrible!
Nope no hope of saving that! find another source!
:bang:

The Mechanix - September 7, 2005 01:43 AM (GMT)
i just want it so i can fit more songs on my shitty Mp3 player as i am too cheap to buy one of the like 10 gig ones... but damn dude 10 kb/s?! where did you get that from?

i do the same...i keep 320kbps on my hard drive, but convert them to 128 for my mp3 player, could just buy a bigger one but i dont need it

The Mechanix - September 9, 2005 02:18 AM (GMT)
yea, thats whats ok a lot of people i know do too, my friend has a 50 gig rio or something, and he cuts the quality in half just so he can fit all of his like 50000 songs and still have space left over

jimmeh - September 9, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
i have all my stuff in 192kbps, but when i run out of space on my ipod (and i've only got about 3GB left) i'm just gonna convert it all to 128.

Maybe so, but around here theres duct tape that has the brand name "Duck Tape"
and it even has a little duck logo on it., dead serious heh.

As for the original topic, lowering the quality of music is sacrilege and you should be shot for doing this. I wish mp3 was never invented.

The Mechanix - September 11, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
i dont care if its sacrilage or not, i needa save space on my HD and my Mp3 player

Satanical Eve - October 8, 2005 07:37 AM (GMT)
For me its 160 or above. Anything below I usually DO NOT keep unless its rare!

...And Justice for One - October 8, 2005 07:44 AM (GMT)
Anything I rip from CD is 320, but if I put it on my MP3 player (256mb) then I'll convert it to 128 and copy it to save space

I think I've heard about the "Duck Tape" you're talking about. Anyway, if you have i-Tunes, you no longer have to deal with the mp3. They give you the option to import songs in m4a format. I made a mix the other day by importing songs from CD's as m4a's at 192 kbps, and I couldn't tell the difference between the burned CD and the originals, and I was listening to it on good speakers. I think you can download m4a converters from the internet if you don't have i-Tunes. Anyway, I highly recomend m4a's if you're making a mix or digitizing albums.
