Title: floyd rose restringing....help!

jimmeh - August 26, 2005 08:50 AM (GMT)
so i've noticed some rust on my strings (well i think its rust) and have decided to change it. I unscrewed the lock on the strings, and have loosened the top e string (high e). But what do i do next? It seems stuck on, i can't work out how to get it free of the bridge. Some help would be appreciated, and please explain any terminology about the floyd rose that you use, cause i don't know it  (i do know simple stuff like headstock, bridge and tremolo though :bang:  ).

ok , if i understand correctly , you want to change strings becouse of rust , and he high e string is stuck ,

well cut it with scissors

...kinda

at the bridge, where the string goes in, i don't know how to loosen it. There's so many screws/nail things i don't wanna loosen the wrong one and have the bridge collapse...and i don't know what to loosen them with.

well i dont have floyd rose , but now i know what you mean,

it has a lot of screws , but if you look at this picture

http://www.musicyo.com/docs/k09.jpg

probably those at the very back of the floyd rose , which are at the end of every string

i hope it isn't those, cause i can't unscrew them :( a screw or allan key won't fit in them because of the fine tuners behind

there's only one key, but it fits all of them i think. The trouble is, i don't want to unscrew anything until i know for certain incase its keeping the bridge together  and on the back ones, the fine tuners get in the way when i twist it

yeah cheers for trying :) i googled it and the first 8 or so results weren't much help so i gave up.

edit: i've done 2 strings nearly now B) damn i hate floyd rose bridges now  they rock but are a pain in the ass to restring

hey jimmeh, at the very back of the floyd rose unit there are six polls coming out under the fine tuners, these should unscrew anticlockwise, then the string should pop straight out, make sure you cut the ball off the new string before putting on the new string, tighten the poll back up, make sure you take off an old string then put on the new one, then repeat the process for the rest of them, if you take them all off then put all the new ones on it fucks with the floyd rose unit and it takes ages to get it to settle back how it should be, good luck if you need more hints post back, also to keep your strings life longer make sure to wipe them over when you have finished playing :bang:
